Indonesia, the nation with the 4th most populous country globally, is currently facing great economic growth and energy prosperity challenges. Energy becomes one of the essential indicators for a country’s development as it supports expanded industry, modern agriculture, increased trade, and improved transportation. Moreover, the growth of energy is directly related to the world’s welfare and prosperity. Our nation is forecasted to have a 4.3% increase in energy demand per year with more alternative energy resources in the future. However, fossil fuels and coal still dominate Indonesia’s primary energy, accounting for 38% and 30% of total primary energy in 2016, while renewable energy use also increases (Ministry of National Development Planning, 2019). To suppress Indonesia’s dependence on fossil fuels,  Dr. Siti Nurbaya, Indonesia’s Minister of the Environment and Forestry, signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change in 2016, intending to lessen global carbon emissions. The pledge opens up our potential in other energy sectors and its expansion. Alas, the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic presents Indonesia with unprecedented complexity to achieve its development goals.

This pandemic of COVID-19 has left us tossed around in confusion and created an immense influence on the whole world. The pandemic is here for us to face up to the hard times. To create a sustainable post-pandemic era, ensuring the energy outlook is important. Therefore, Association of American Petroleum Geologists – University of Gadjah Mada Student Chapter (AAPG – UGM SC) proceeded to conduct our 8th annual event, International Energy Summit 2021, under the theme ‘Optimizing Effective Strategy to Enhance Energy Outlook in Indonesia.’ Within this event, we are looking for youth representatives to participate by pouring out their ideas throughout our sub-event; competitions, webinar series, and companies exhibition.
